The department rejoiced the International Yoga Day on 21st of June by organizing a yoga session at the Biotech center. Yoga instructor, Mr.Himanshu, conducted the event by teaching various ‘yog asanas’ along with explaining the benefits of each one of them. The session was enthusiastically attended by M.Sc. & Ph.D. students of the Department, and also by all the Professors and staff members. Mr.Himanshu first explained about the right posture one should always sit in during yoga and while performing various activities during the day. The session then began with chanting of "Gayatri Mantra" followed by the warmup by rotation of joints. He trained the participants in various asanas such as Tadasana, Salabhasana, Utkatasana, Padma Bhujasana, and many others. There was a short meditation session as well during which he stated the art of focusing and breathing to relax every muscle of our body. In the end there was chanting of "Om" and "Gayatri Mantra" leaving everyone feeling relaxed and fresh. This was followed by an interactive round where participants discussed how Yoga can help in solving their problems such as body pain. He suggested certain yoga practices that could be followed to combat them. Yoga is an important practice that should be incorporated in the daily routine to increase flexibility, improve respiration, cardiovascular system and overall body health. Therefore, it was very thoughtful to organise this Yoga session to spread awareness among the students and boost their overall performance. This energising kick start yoga session was a day well spent and, not to miss, there were refreshments were served too in the end.
