Frequently asked questions related to admission to M.Sc. Microbiology program

1.      Which colleges of University of Delhi offer M.Sc. Microbiology program?

The M.Sc. Microbiology program is only offered by the Department of Microbiology at the South Campus of University of Delhi. It is not offered in any college affiliated to University of Delhi.

 

2.      How many seats are available for admission in this program?

For academic year 2020-21, the total numbers of seats available for admission are 15. The category-wise distribution of seats as per reservation rules is given on the Department website here.

 

3.      What is the process of taking admission in this program?

Half of the seats available for admission are filled through entrance test conducted by the University of Delhi. Remaining half are filled on merit, based on marks secured in B.Sc. (Hons) Microbiology (Delhi University) program.

 

4.      How can I get application form for admission to this program?

The admission process is entirely online through the PG admission portal of University of Delhi. The applicant will be required to register on the PG admission portal and pay the application fee online. The date on which the PG admission portal will open for registrations will be announced on the University website in due course. 

 

5.      Who can apply for admission to this program through entrance test mode?

Any student who has passed B.Sc. (General) or B.Sc. (Hons) or an equivalent Undergraduate Degree in any branch of Life Sciences/ Medical Sciences/ any branch of Biology from any UGC recognized University or institute, with 60% or above marks, is eligible to apply through entrance test mode.

 

6.      Who can apply for admission to this program through merit mode?

Only those students who have passed B.Sc. (Hons.) in Microbiology from University of Delhi and obtained 60% or above marks are eligible to apply through merit mode.

 

7.      Are those students who have passed B.Sc. (Hons.) in Microbiology from any University other than University of Delhi also eligible to apply through merit mode?

No. Such students can only apply through entrance test mode.

 

8.      What is the fee for this course?

In 2019-20, the fees payable at the time of admission for the first year of the MSc. Programme was Rs.2506/- only for Indian citizens. The fees for the second year of the programme is to be paid at the start of the second year. A separate examination fee is to be paid each semester before the final examinations. The fees payable for the current academic year is expected to be around the same amount as last year.

 

9.      What is the format of entrance test?

The entrance test will be of 2 hours duration, and will consist of 100 multiple choice questions. The syllabus for the entrance test can be downloaded from the department website here. The date for the entrance test will be announced on the University website as well as on the department website as and when the PG admission portal will start functioning.

For any query related to the PG admission portal like registration, online fees payment, admit card for entrance test etc, you will need to contact at the email addresses or phone numbers provided on the PG admission portal website.

 

12.   Is hostel facility available for students?

Yes, University of Delhi South Campus has two hostels for boy students (Saramati & Aravali) and one for girl students (Geetanjali). Office timings of hostels are 9 am to 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday. However, limited seats are available in the girls’ and boys’ hostels and preference is given to students from outside Delhi-NCR. Admission to hostels is based on the merit list separately prepared by the hostel administration. Students need to apply separately for hostel facility after getting admission to the Department.

 

13.   How is the campus connectivity to other parts of Delhi and country?

University of Delhi South Campus is well connected by public transport systems, via DTC routes and Delhi Metro. The Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus metro station on Pink line is located just outside the back exit gate of South Campus, and is 1.2 Km from the department, taking about 15 minutes to reach if walking through the Campus. The railway stations near South Campus for those arriving from other states include New Delhi, Old Delhi, Anand Vihar and Delhi cantonment on Indian railway network. 14.   Admission under Other Backward Class (OBC) category- non creamy layer

The OBC applicants who belong to the ‘Non-Creamy Layer’ and whose caste appears in the Central List of the OBCs only, shall be eligible to be considered for admission under the OBC category (Validity period of OBC certificate in respect of ‘creamy layer’ status of the applicants as per DOPT Office Memorandum No. 36036/2/2013-Estt.(Res-I) dated 31 March 2016). The validity of the non-creamy layer certificate shall be for the financial year 2019-2020, issued after 31st March, 2020. If the applicants do not have the OBC non-creamy layer certificate of the financial year 2019-20 at the time of upload, the applicant may upload old OBC non-creamy layer certificate/acknowledgement slip of OBC non-creamy layer certificate application. However, at the time of admission, the applicant will have to produce the OBC non-creamy layer certificate of the financial year 2019-20.
