Trip Summary Report: by Adivitiya (Ph.D.Scholar)

AdivityaA group of 27 students and 3 teachers left for Udaipur on the evening of 12th October 2017 in a hired bus from the Department of Microbiology, University of Delhi South Campus. After reaching Hotel Kajri at Udaipur on the morning of 13th October, the entire group left to visit the majestic City Palace, Udaipur built by the Mewar dynasty on the banks of the Lake Pichola.  Post lunch, the group enjoyed a ferry ride on Lake Pichola. Students collected water samples from the lake for isolation of microorganisms thriving in the hot atmosphere of Udaipur. Subsequently, we attended the light and sound show of the City Palace after which we returned back to the hotel. The next day, 14th October, we visited the Sajjangarh Biological Park, a famous zoological garden situated in Udaipur where students collected water and soil samples for isolation of novel microbes followed by a visit to the Monsoon Palace overlooking the Fateh Sagar Lake. After lunch the entire group left for Mount Abu where we indulged in boating at Nakki Lake, the largest manmade lake of India. The next day, 15th October, the group left for Guru Shikhar, the highest peak of the Aravalli Range as well as the highest point in Mount Abu, 1722m above sea level. This was followed by a visit to Achalgarh fort which lies in a dilapidated condition. The Achaleshwar Mahadev Temple is situated right outside the fort where the toe of Lord Shiva is worshipped. The temple also houses a brass Nandi. Finally, the last stop before starting the return journey: the group visited the beautiful Jain pilgrimage site, the Dilwara Temples with its extraordinary architecture and intricate carvings. The group returned back to the campus on the morning of 16th October 2017.
