GRANTS (ONGOING):

Project : Engineering Pichia pastoris platform to address catabolite repression and methanol usage for AOX1 promoter-guided expression: Strain development for efficient utilization of methanol substitutes in a glycerol-independent system

Funded by: DBT (45.5 lakhs)

Period: June 2017-May 2020

GRANTS (COMPLETED IN LAST 5 YEARS):

Project: Genome wide survey of lipases from Yarrowia lipolytica: cloning expression, biochemical characterization and applications

Funded by: DBT (44.43 lakhs)

Period: April 2014- March 2017.

As part of this project aims at heterologous expression of lipases YLIP4, YLIP5, YLIP7, YLIP13 and YLIP15 from Yarrowia lipolytica MSR80 in E. coli and their substrate specificity, kinetic comparison and enantioselectivity; and targeted mutations and MD simulations of a methanol-stable lipase YLIP9 from Yarrowia lipolytica MSR80 to develop a biodiesel enzyme. The work was published in Biotechnology and applied biochemistry and International Journal of Biological Macromolecules in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

Project: Utilization of peptidomimetics to design small molecules from a novel P1 peptide, their interaction with beta amyloid oligomers by in-silico and in-vitro approaches, and its efficiency in clearing beta amyloid load by ex vivo model of Alzheimer’s disease

Funded by: DBT-BIRAC (22 lakhs)

Period: April 2012-March 2016.

This project aimed at designing of novel peptides for clearing beta amyloid load in ex vivo model of Alzheimer’s disease.

Project: Enzymatic synthesis of Theanine: A nutraceutical using microbial γ-glutamyl transpeptidase

Funded by: MoFPI (23 lakhs)

Period: October 2010-September 2013.

This project aimed to develop a process for enzymatic synthesis of L-theanine using gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase from Bacillus licheniformis and downstream processing of the product. The work was published in Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry in 2014.

Project: Keratinase from Bacillus pumilus for degradation of recalcitrant proteins: Process optimization and biochemical characterization

Funded by: DBT (29 lakhs)

Period: April 2010-March 2013.

This project comprised of expression of Thermostable keratinase from Bacillus pumilus KS12, its chitin crosslinking and application in degradation of Sup35NM aggregates and in developing renewable flocculants from bone meal. This work was published in Bioresource Technology and Annals of Microbiology in 2013.

Project: Biochemical and molecular characterization of and enantioselective lipase from Trichosporan ashaii MSR-54

Funded by: CSIR (21.83 lakhs)

Period: May 2010-April 2013.

This project aimed at functional characterization of novel enantioselective lipase TALipA from Trichosporon asahii; sequence comparison; and determining the solvent-dependent enantio-inversion. This work was published in Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology and Biotechnology Letters in 2014.
